Private ADHD assessment in Oxford: what to expect, step by step

Written in English

If you’re looking into a private ADHD assessment in Oxford or Oxfordshire, the process itself is often the least clear part — people know they want answers, but not what actually happens between booking and getting a report. Here’s how it works with me, step by step.

1. Initial consultation

We start with a conversation about what’s brought you to this point — the patterns you’ve noticed, how long they’ve been there, and what you’re hoping an assessment will clarify. This is also where we confirm that an ADHD assessment is the right fit, rather than, say, an autism assessment or a broader cognitive assessment, since the presentations can overlap.

2. The structured assessment

For adult ADHD, I use the DIVA-5 — the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults — a structured clinical interview built around the formal diagnostic criteria, covering both childhood and current-day functioning across attention, impulsivity and hyperactivity. Alongside it, we typically draw on standardised self-report questionnaires and, where possible, some corroborating history from someone who knew you as a child, since ADHD has to have been present from childhood to meet diagnostic criteria — even if nobody recognised it at the time.

3. The written report

You get a full written report setting out the findings, the reasoning behind them, and what they mean practically — whether that’s a formal diagnosis, a recommendation for medication review with a psychiatrist or GP, or signposting to other support. This isn’t a same-day pass/fail — it’s a considered formulation of what’s actually going on.

What it costs

A standalone ADHD assessment is £1,100. If autism is also a genuine possibility, a combined ADHD and autism assessment is £2,500 — often more efficient, and more accurate, than two separate processes when the two commonly co-occur. Full fees for every service are on the fees and appointments page.

I’m based at The Neurodiversity Centre in Witney, and work with people across Oxford, Banbury, Bicester, Abingdon and further afield, as well as online. If you’d like to talk it through first, get in touch, or head straight to the assessment page for the full detail on what’s offered.
